Candidate Introductions: Cache South
We told you all we had some great candidates for the election cycle this year and we would like to start highlighting them before Caucus and Convention in March. Please meet our candidates who are running in the south end of the valley.
Kendra Penry is running for House District 5: Here is a little about her.
Kendra is the Executive Director of Stokes Nature Center in Logan, UT, a position she has held since 2019. She earned a B.A. in International Studies from Hollins University in Roanoke, VA, and an M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Kendra grew up in small towns and rural mountain communities, where she learned the value of hard work, community, and showing up for those in need.
Kendra has dedicated her entire career to community service by working in the nonprofit field for more than 2 decades, including as a Community Engagement Coordinator for Heifer International, a nonprofit whose mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for our earth. She has also worked for organizations such as Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition to raise awareness about human trafficking and the Mississippi Consortium for International Development to increase cross-cultural communication through the International Visitor Leadership Program.
Kendra loves to get outdoors with her husband, Allen, who she met while serving as an Americorps Service Fellow with the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation. Together, they care for an adorable supermutt named Tekoa. Kendra enjoys just about all things outdoors, including long distance running, cycling, hiking, and camping which is a big reason why she loves Utah.
Kendra is the 2021 recipient of the Nat Frazer Environmental Education Leadership Award from the Utah Society of Environmental Education and the 2025 recipient of the Harry Reid award for Excellence in Land Conservation from the Cache Democrats. She has served on the Cache Open Space Advisory Committee for three years and counting. She volunteers with the Cache Valley League of Women Voters, has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for many years, coached Girls on the Run at Hillcrest Elementary and coaches both girls and boys tennis at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum. She was certified as a Utah Master Naturalist in 2022 and loves to explore nature everywhere she goes.
