A look into 2026...
I want to share some things with all of you as we move into this election year. We are excited to have recruited some amazing candidates for all of you to vote for this coming year! All four of our local county council races, three of the four House District races, the one state senate race, and the state school board all have Democratic candidates running in them. The state school board race has three Democratic candidates all from Cache Valley. There are also progressive candidates for our local school board races. There are going to be options this year and the state party filled 90% of races this year statewide. This means less and less Republicans are running uncontested. This is a good thing for Democracy! Cache Democrats main goal for 2026 we set at our Executive meeting this week is to Elect Democrats! We are going to need your help doing that and in the next few weeks here and on our social media pages, we will be sharing our candidate profiles so you get a chance to know the diverse and experienced group of candidates we have for you. We encourage you to volunteer and donate to their campaigns.
I also want you to keep your calendars open for a couple of exciting events that are coming up. First, we have a legislative preview on this Friday evening at 6PM. This will be virtual that you can access here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89935367206 Meeting ID: 899 3536 7206. Representative Angela Romero and Senator Kathleen Riebe will discuss with us priorities for the Democratic party for the upcoming state legislative session. Clare Collard our National Committeewoman will be moderating this discussion and we would love for you all to tune in and show them Cache Valley is paying attention and we care about our state.
We are going to have so many ways for you to start getting more involved with the party. Cache Democrats along with the USU College Democrats will be hosting Dr. Jacob Rugh, a sociology professor from BYU who has been studying the voting trends in Utah and will discuss how Cache Valley is indeed on the cusp of winning some blue seats. This event is going to be Tuesday, February 24th 5:30-7PM at USU. More details to come on this, but put it on your calendar. His presentation is titled: Hope for Utah's Future: The 2026 Blue Wave and Beyond
Caucus Night and Convention are also coming up! Please be aware of the following dates and share with your friends to make them aware:
Statewide Caucus Night (for both Democrats and Republicans) will be Tuesday, March 17th, St, Patrick's Day. We will be holding this at USU for the Cache Democrats. Our county convention will then be Saturday, March 28th 1:30PM at Logan High School. Look for more information to come on all of these events and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening for the Legislative Preview!
